*PM attends conservation programme's 6th anniversary celebrations

During the second phase of the National Programme for Conservation and Energy Efficiency (Tarsheed), the Qatar General Electricity and Water Corporation (Kahramaa) aims to reduce per capita consumption of electricity and water by 8% and 15% respectively, and carbon emissions by 7%, it was announced on Wednesday.
It was also announced that the Tarsheed committee would provide technical support to a number of projects in Qatar to produce 500 to 700mw of electricity from renewable and alternative energy sources.
Kahramaa announced the start of the second phase of the campaign (2018-2022) and its new roadmap to achieve the objectives set as per the Qatar National Development Strategy (2018-2022) at the 6th anniversary of Tarsheed held at the Qatar National Convention Centre. 
HE the Prime Minister and Interior Minister Sheikh Abdullah bin Nasser bin Khalifa al-Thani graced the 6th anniversary celebrations.
Kahramaa's Tarsheed initiative is held under the patronage of His Highness the Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani. 
Wednesday's function also saw the participation of HE the Minister of Energy and Industry Dr Mohamed Saleh al-Sada, and HE the Minister of Transport and Communications Jassim Seif Ahmed al-Sulaiti, HE the Minister of Municipality and Environment Mohamed bin Abdullah al-Rumaihi and Kahramaa president and senior engineer Essa bin Hilal al-Kuwari, diplomats and several other senior government officials.
While recalling the achievements of Tarsheed since its launch in April 2012, HE al-Sada said the conservation campaign succeeded in reducing the per capita consumption of electricity and water in Qatar by 17% and 18% respectively last year compared to the previous year (2016). It also helped to reduce the carbon emissions by 10.2mn tons. The whole campaign could make an effective saving of QR5bn.
At the programme, the organisers felicitated the winners of the competitions held as part of the campaign.

Jaber al-Merri, Managing Editor of Al Arab newspaper was honoured for his support to the Tarsheed initiatives on social media platforms.
The organisers also honoured the students of Qatar Technical High School for Boys, Eibib Primary School for Girls, Om Aymen High School for Girls and Al Wakrah High School for developing solar energy projects under Tarsheed supervision.
At the ceremony, Ministry of Transport and Communications was honoured as the best government entity supporting the campaign.
At the venue of the annual celebrations, an expo on conservation tools and techniques was also held.
