Students at Al Maha Academy for Boys greeted the morning with a lot of blue, the main colour for autism, during a recent event held at the school to mark the World Autism Awareness Day.
Many students and teachers were wearing blue themselves; when they arrived at the school and theytook part in the event. The parents, dropping off their boys, were delighted with the roses, blue in colour, which they received at the entrance.
The main lobby was festooned with ribbons and balloons. A large white poster, with an autism awareness ribbon, was turned into a lovely art piece of bright colours as the students and the guests took turns painting its puzzle pieces. The place buzzed as the students took part in activities that actively promote autism awareness. In one corner, there was a bed of pencils and sharpeners of different colours. Each student got one pencil after painting a puzzle piece on the autism ribbon. A table, decorated colourfully, held an exhibit of the students’ artworks. Some large-size posters carried the slogan of ‘accept, understand, love’ were also placed in the school.
Spearheading the school event was ‘Learning Support.’ Amel Ebrahim, Section Head, harnessed the talent and skills of the team, which contributed to its success. The principal of the school, was also present along with other senior leadership team members to show their full support to the cause. They enjoyed doing the prepared activities such as scribbling brief messages on the autism ribbon poster and painting puzzle pieces on the autism ribbon, each of which was held by an easel.
Autism is a condition in which a person looks at the world around him or her uniquely. A person with autism responds to situations and communicates differently. Being aware of their situation, enables others to respect and appreciate a person with autism. AMAB, through its awareness campaign, joins the whole of the country in observing the day as Qatar commits itself to providing quality healthcare to all including those with autism, to empower them, and to improve the quality of their lives.
