*Phone call reviews bilateral ties and means of developing them

His Highness the Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani held on Tuesday  evening a telephone conversation with US President Donald Trump.

During the phone call, they reviewed the strategic relations between the two friendly countries and means of enhancing them to achieve the common interests of the two countries.

A number of current issues were also discussed, particularly the fight against extremism and terrorism and the two countries' joints efforts in this field, the official Qatar News Agency (QNA) said.

The Emir and the US president also exchanged views on the latest events and developments on the regional and international arenas.

A statement issued by the White House following the talks said the president thanked the Emir for Qatar’s continued commitment to counter terrorist financing and extremism.

"The leaders discussed Iran’s increasingly reckless behaviour in the region and the threat it poses to regional stability. The president and the Emir discussed the obstacles to restoring unity in the Gulf Co-operation Council (GCC). The president thanked the Emir for his commitment to help restore GCC unity and emphasised that it is critical to end the Gulf dispute."

During the call, the US president and the Emir agreed on the importance of regional unity to address security threats and to ensure the prosperity of the people in the region, the statement added.
