Ashghal has opened a new bridge over Al Shamal Expressway directly connecting Al Itihad Street in Al Gharrafa area and Saqr Street in Madinat Khalifa North.

The new bridge will facilitate the smooth flow of traffic during construction works taking place in the area. Ashghal said in a statement on Tuesday that it completed the bridge six months ahead of schedule.

The quick completion has been attributed to the engineering techniques and solutions adopted.

The engineering solutions reduced significantly the building costs and duration of the traffic diversions on account of the construction. The construction required closing the street for several hours at night, thus reducing the impact on traffic.

The construction required the use of a giant crane to install the 15 concrete beams. The crane was capable of carrying up to 600 tonnes.

The bridge was constructed of materials from national factories in Qatar as part of Ashghal’s efforts to support and qualify the Qatari products, factories and local suppliers to participate in the implementation of projects executed by the Public Works Authority.

The new bridge consists of one lane in each direction. It will connect directly the two areas of Gharafa and Madinat Khalifa North eliminating the need to pass through Al Shamal road. It will also ease the traffic congestion on Umm Lekhba Interchange (Landmark) and Al Gharrafa Interchange (Al Jawazat).
