The Ministry of Municipality and Environment's Department of Agriculture Affairs, in co-operation with Community College of Qatar, is organising a fair to promote healthy food culture and nutrition in the country.
The fair, being held under the theme "Young and Conscious for Better Health", is taking place at the national products area where local vegetables and agricultural produce are sold.
Thursdays have been reserved for women, while Fridays are dedicated for men.
Participants, including working women and housewives, were briefed on innovative ideas for healthy diet with an emphasis on promoting a healthy food culture, and raising public awareness of the importance of food-group diversity to achieve integrated nutritional value.
The fair seeks to educate the public about proper nutrition and healthy food free of chemicals, organic products and their benefits, and encourage the public farm owners to adopt this type of agriculture.
This year's activities and events have been marked by a noticeable increase in student attendance as well as higher participation in exhibits, ideas and projects, Director of Agricultural Affairs Department, Yousef al-Khulaifi said.
The fair is aimed at informing students of the basics of healthy nutrition, avoidance of chronic diseases through healthy food habits, the adoption of ideas and projects by students in the field of nutrition, and linking healthy nutrition to sport, Community College of Qatar Nutrition professor Dr Majid Ibrahim said.
