A total of 485,586 students, including 452,781 under regular, 24,071 under exempted and 8,734 under technical categories are appearing in the Nepal’s secondary education examination (SEE).
The office of the controller of examinations said yesterday that the first day of the secondary education examination passed off peacefully.
“The examination was conducted in a peaceful manner. No untoward incident was reported from any part of the country,” said examination controller Ambika Regmi.
Students who had scored ‘C’ or below in SEE last year are also taking the exam under exempted category. The examination is being held at 1,956 centres set up across the country. An equal number of superintendents have been assigned to ensure that the exam is held peacefully.
Several inspection teams have been deployed to conduct the examination in an orderly manner. The teams comprise board officials, representatives of district education offices, regional education directorate and district co-ordination committees.
Girls outnumber the boys this year as well with 249,135 female and 236,451 male students appearing in the exam.
Regmi added that 2,450 assistant superintendents, 20,340 invigilators, 10,676 assistants and 29,340 security personnel were mobilised for the examination.
Among the seven provinces, Karnali province has the lowest 38,592 examinees, while Province 3 has the highest number of examinees at 108,322.
District-wise, Kathmandu has the highest 35,468 examinees, while Manang has the lowest 56.
However, the number of students who remain absent in the examination will be ascertained only after the examination concludes.
The number of regular students appearing in SEE has gone down this year compared to last year.
Last year, there were 464,743 students, while there are 452,781 students taking the examination this year under the regular category.
The controller of examinations said a fine of Rs100,000 or a prison term of six months, or both, would be slapped on those involved in irregularities in the examinations.
There are practical examinations for all compulsory subjects, except mathematics, this year. According to the OCE, separate sets of question papers were prepared for regular and exempted students this year as the course was changed.
However, question papers for regular and exempted students of SEE technical stream aren’t different.
Known as the school leaving certificate examinations in the past, it was renamed SEE in 2017.
