The Qatar General Electricity and Water Corporation (Kahramaa) has launched the week-long Tarsheed Carnival at the Kahramaa Awareness Park in Al Thumama.
Tarsheed is the national programme for conservation and energy efficiency.
The opening of the event featured an array of entertainment activities, including live music performance and dances.
A festive touch has been given to the venue with an arch of Tarsheed Carnival and some tents installed.
At the inaugural function were children from some of the local schools, accompanied by their teachers, along with Kahramaa representatives.
The release of balloons marked the event’s opening.
A number of eateries and booths of such departments as Directorate of Civil Defence and agencies in the health sector have been set up.
Speaking to journalists, Kahramaa officials said that the festival, organised to spread awareness about the need for conservation of water and electricity among the country’s residents, in particular schoolchildren, will continue until March 29.
While schoolchildren can visit the venue of the celebrations in the morning, afternoon sessions until 9pm are for other residents, including families.
Tarsheed is celebrating its 6th anniversary on April 22.
As part of Tarsheed, Kahramaa will be observing “Earth Hour” by switching off power at its locations between 7.30pm and 8.30pm.
