Jassim al-Khulaifi inaugurated the 34th Traffic Week celebrations at
Darb Al Saai yesterday evening in the presence of a number of officers
and departmental directors at the Ministry of Interior (MoI).
The Traffic Week will continue until March 24, featuring a wide range of
awareness activities and involving the participation of ministries and
institutions related to awareness and traffic in the country, the MoI
has said in a statement.
The events will be held throughout the week in two shifts: morning from
8am until 12noon, except on Friday, and evening from 4pm until 9pm.
The associated events include a large number of activities that are
different from those held in previous years, the statement notes. These
include traffic services provided by the Licensing Department at the
General Directorate of Traffic for participants of the events.
Vehicle registration, renewal of driving licences, mobile technical
inspection of vehicles, training and driving test, as well as an
exhibition of insurance companies and traffic competitions sponsored by
driving schools are among the activities.
The traffic village and theatre will be open this morning and the
Traffic Licensing Department will offer its services to the public from
the morning as well. In the evening, there will be a seminar reviewing
“The road safety strategy in Qatar until 2022”, along with activities of
the Licensing Department and traffic-related competitions for the
public.
Tomorrow, the students’ theatre will offer a range of activities for
visiting school students and veteran drivers will also be honoured.
There will be a debate titled “Driving without license - between
acceptance and refusal”, with the participation of school students. The
evening events include a seminar on the “Role of family in traffic
awareness”.
A seminar will be held on “The role of schools in spreading traffic
awareness” on Wednesday evening along with activities in the traffic
village, as well as traffic competitions sponsored by driving schools.
The activities on Wednesday will conclude with a poetry-reading event.
An awareness lecture on the theme “Wrong traffic behaviour from an
Islamic perspective” will be held on Thursday morning, in addition to
activities of the traffic village, the Licensing Department and the
students’ theatre. A seminar on “Traffic information -
between reality and hope” will be held in the evening.
The events on Friday will start from 4pm. The week-long events will conclude on Saturday evening.
The Traffic Week this year is witnessing the participation of a number
of ministries concerned, such as the Ministry of Education and Higher
Education, with a specially arranged school tent. There will be
activities to educate students at all levels, along with a special
children corner and interactive games for kids.
There will be special areas for Souq Waqif while more than 60 entities
will take part in the main exhibition held at Darb Al Saai. Lekhwiya
will demonstrate its skills in the external area of the venue, and there
will be shows pertaining to youth initiatives through some youth wings
and Qatar University.
