Dr Sheikha Aisha bint Faleh al-Thani, chairperson of Al Faleh Group, gave the keynote speech at the University of Aberdeen on International Women’s Day on the importance of education in helping women achieve their full potential.
The programme brought together public figures who came to celebrate International Women’s Day at the university’s annual event on the campus in Aberdeen, Scotland.
Sheikha Aisha who discussed her experiences of women in education in her keynote speech, said: “I feel truly humbled to offer my practical knowledge and to talk about the importance of education and lifelong learning. My own life and development has been about lifelong learning, and I am passionate that other women can gain the value added to their own lives and careers.”
The event with the theme Inspiring Women: Press for Progress was attended by university staff, students, local business leaders and members of the public who came to hear from a diverse range of speakers who are widely recognised as leaders in their respective fields and who have gone above and beyond the norm in advancing women’s role in society.
Among the speakers at the event were Eve Pollard OBE, Ann Moulds, founder and CEO of Action Scotland Against Stalking and Dr Isobel Cameron who has conducted significant research on mental health issues.
