The second edition of Doha Triathlon 2018 will be held at Museum of Islamic Art (MIA) Park on March 16.
After the big success of the inaugural edition last year, in which 400 amateur and professional athletes took part, Doha Triathlon 2018 comes with new additions to make this event bigger. The Doha Triathlon is being organised by Tasama Sports Development in partnership with the Qatar Cycling and Triathlon Federation, the Museum of Islamic Art and Qatar Tourism Authority as a Presenting Partner.
Triathlon is an exciting sport that combines swimming, cycling, and running and is considered a challenging test for athletes.
This year the event is comprised three race – Sprint (750m swim, 20km bike, 5k run), Olympic (1500m swim, 40km bike, 10k run) for 16 years and above, and the new junior super sprint distance (375m swim, 10km bike, 2.5k run) for children aged between 12 to 15 years.
The swim will take place in bay behind the Museum and the transition will be placed next to Richard Serra’s ‘7’ Sculpture. The cycling leg will be along the Corniche and back to the Museum Park for the run.
Qatar Cycling and Triathlon Federation board member Professor Dr Nasser al-Mohannadi believes that the Doha Triathlon has the potential to grow into a global event.
“Triathlon is a sport that’s growing very quickly both in Qatar and across the region. In Qatar, we are blessed with perfect conditions and venues for the sport and we are aiming to upgrade the event from local to regional, continental and world level in the next five years,” al-Mohannadi said.
