Bazm e Urdu Qatar (BUQ) recently organised a reception and mushaira (poetry symposium) in the honour of renowned fiction writer Naushabah Khatoon and Urdu poet Dr Nadeem Jeelani Danish at Maza restaurant.
The event consisted of two sessions, prose and poetry. The programme was presided over by Mohammad Sabih Bukhari, Director Satco group and the Patron in Chief of BUQ, while Naushabah Khatoon was the chief guest and Dr Nadeem Jeelani Danish was the guest of honour.
After the welcome address by BUQ General Secretary Ahmad Ashfaque, Naushaba Khatoon’s book Khizan K Baad (After Autumn) was launched. Mementos were presented to both guests by Sabih Bukhari.
“The Urdu language is spreading all over the world and its popularity is gaining ground in Qatar. It is interesting to note that many expatriates including Indians, Pakistanis, and Nepali are being drawn to this language and have started to understand the poetry, literature and culture of Urdu,” said Naushabah Khatoon.
She highlighted the need of fiction in Urdu writing. She said, “Fiction is the spirit of novel and it appeals the reader to read the whole novel. It creates an interesting scenario in the reader’s mind.”
Sabih Bukhari said, “We are doing everything possible to spread Urdu in Qatar and make Doha a city of love and culture.”
Ibrahim Khan Kamal, Founder Chairman of Anjuman e Mohiban e Urdu Hind Qatar, presided over the second of mushaira. As many as 18 poets presented their poetic works. 
Dr Nadeem Jeelani Danish expressed his satisfaction with the ongoing activities of BUQ under the guidance of Sabih Bukhari.
