As the country prepares for the ninth edition of Qatar International Food Festival (QIFF), the festival organisers have partnered with Qatar Culinary Professionals (QCP) and Msheireb Museums to deliver a healthy food and nutrition awareness programme for 700 schools students.
Until March 15, a total of 700 primary and middle students from 14 different public and private schools in Qatar will be visiting Msheireb for a tour of the museums rounded off with a QIFF healthy food awareness session.
“Culinary experiences are cultural, social and entertaining. It is also important for our children to be taught about nutrition, and we are grateful to the support of our partners for sharing this message with the country’s youth,” Qatar Tourism Authority (QTA) festivals and tourism events director Mashal Shahbik said. “We are particularly pleased to be extending QIFF’s activities to Msheireb Museums this year, allowing us to shed the spotlight on one of Doha’s key tourist attractions,” she added.
Local chefs Yousef Owaidah, Warda Ibrahim and others from Dana’s kitchen, along with Baladna chefs Sobhi Halima and Mohamed Dumrani and renowned vegan restaurateur Ghanem al-Sulaiti, are helping students distinguish between healthy and unhealthy foods, and understand the benefits and harms of different food products.
At the sessions, the chefs prepare healthy and tasty snacks in front of the students, helping them gain a visual understanding of where food comes from and an appreciation of healthy alternatives to common snacks.
