HE the Minister of Energy and Industry, Dr Mohamed bin Saleh al-Sada, has affirmed Qatar’s support for all Arab efforts to meet water challenges by assisting in all that could save and preserve water resources in line with the slogan of this year’s Arab Water Day.
In a speech to mark the Arab Water Day today, Dr al-Sada said that the day embodies the importance of water in our lives as one of the most important elements in the sustainability of life.
He pointed out that this year’s celebration reminds us of the close relationship between water, energy and food security and the importance of understanding this interdependence in resource management for sustainable development, especially as we live in one of the most water-scarce region in the world, where we face many challenges, the most important of which are the accelerated depletion of groundwater, the increase in salinity and the steady increase in water demand due to increasing population growth and rapid economic development, which led to the importation of food and dependence on energy in desalination.
The minister stressed that Qatar attaches great importance to the water sector within framework of Qatar National Vision 2030, which aims to integrate all sectors to sustain life, achieve sustainable development and ensure a better future for generations to come.
The Qatar National Vision 2030 aims to transfer the State of Qatar by 2030 into a developed state that is capable of achieving sustainable development and ensuring a continuous decent living for its current and future generations, he said.
Owing to the importance of this sector, HE Dr al-Sada said that the Ministry of Energy and Industry, represented by the Qatar General Electricity and Water Corp (Kahramaa), took the initiative to develop necessary plans for improving and modernising the vital facilities of this sector in order to increase productivity and meet growing demand.
