India’s Hazoorilal Jewellers, under the stewardship of Sandeep Narang, is a relatively newcomer at the Doha Jewellery and Watches Exhibition (DJWE), having been a participant only since the 13th edition in 2016.
However, that has not prevented the company from being able to win over a good number of affluent customers in Qatar, courtesy of their innovative range of ornaments.
The Delhi-based jeweller, who has been in the business since 1952, has a boutique at the Alfardan Jewellery pavilion, showcasing an array of creative designs.
“We are indeed amazed by the response from our Qatari customers, who are obviously happy with the designs and patterns that we have at our boutique. Since our participation in the 2016 expo, we have been receiving a good number of Qatari clients for our ornaments, made of diamonds and other precious stones,” said general manager Tarun Gadi.
While acknowledging the support received from the clientele in Doha, Gadi said their interest in some of the ethnic Indian designs has “literally floored him”. “It seems they have come across similar ornaments in some Bollywood movies in the past few years and now they are now asking us to provide those designs and patterns,” the company official added.
Gadi said Narang has been keenly watching global developments and knows what each market requires every season. “Across the Middle East, there is remarkably good demand for emerald stones. Others, too, have good appeal. Now, Tanzanite is also becoming popular with people here,” he said.
Narang’s designer daughter Tanya, too, herself interacts with customers at the boutique. Her creation Millefiori is going down well with customers here.
“The changing buying habits among some of the customers are making the business more challenging as well as interesting. Young customers travel across the world and they demand the latest in trend. I think it is owing to the popularity of platforms such as Instagram that we receive, in Delhi, queries from customers in Doha and other places who say they are highly impressed with our ornaments, especially necklaces and bridal collections,” Gadi added.
