Sri Lanka election monitor Campaign for Free and Fair Elections (CAFFE) has urged the government to hold the provincial council elections in the country.
Keerthi Tennakoon, executive director, CAFFE, said the delimitation committee appointed to determine the limits of electoral districts for provincial councils, has submitted the report and the government should hold election by April.
He said that the government should call an all-party meeting in this regard.
Under the mixed voting system, 50% of the representatives should be elected by the simple majority system for an electoral district and another 50% should be selected according to the district level proportional representation method (the additional list).
The five-member delimitation committee after completing the work in four months handed over its report to Minister for Local Government Faizer Mustapha on Monday.
At the parliamentary debate, the government emphasized that the provincial council elections would be held in April.
