The US Department of State is hosting a delegation of five Qatari experts from the Ministry of Interior (MoI) and Ministry of Transport and Communications (MoTC) for a three-week-long programme on cybersecurity, it was announced.
Jassim al-Kuwari and Sheikh Mansoor al-Thani from MoI, as well as Rouda al-Kuwari, Fatima al-Majed and Fahad Saeed Abdulla from MoTC are participating in the prestigious International Visitor Leadership Programme (IVLP) on Cybersecurity which started yesterday. The programme runs until March 10, the US embassy in Doha said in a statement.
The group will meet with both government and private sector stakeholders in several different US cities to exchange information and ideas in the area of cybersecurity.
Through this IVLP exchange programme, the US government will provide the Qatari participants with additional training, best practices and a wider network of contacts to meet Qatar’s cybersecurity needs.
US and Qatar have been proactive in addressing cyber-attacks that pose a threat to a nation’s infrastructure and economy.
The two countries recently formalised their collaboration in the area of cybersecurity capacity-building in a Letter of Intent signed at the bilateral Strategic Dialogue in Washington, DC on January 30.
IVLP is a professional exchange programme run by the Education and Cultural Affairs Bureau at the US Department of State, with nominees selected by US embassies worldwide.
Since 1952, more than 200,000 international visitors participated in the programme, including more than 500 current or former heads of state or heads of government.
