The 11th Olympic Day hosted by Ali Bin Ali (ABA) Group to mark National Sport Day took place amid much fanfare and with the participation of almost 4,000 employees and their families.
The event, which was held at Doha’s Al Arabi Sports Club on Tuesday, is one of the biggest annual attractions for ABA Group staff members.
The ambiance at the stadium was festive, with sports and entertainment combining to provide a carnival-like feel, ABA Group said in a statement. The colourful T-shirts of the attendees, with the ABA Olympic Day logo on them, added to the cheerful mood.
Besides highlighting the importance of exercising and leading a healthy lifestyle through the year, ABA Olympic Day is also the perfect setting for employees – who hail from all divisions of the Group — to come together and mingle in a relaxed setting, the statement notes.
The day’s proceedings began with senior officials of the Group releasing colourful balloons in the air and declaring the event open.  As in previous editions, the 2018 edition of the Olympic Day featured a wide range of fun and sporting activities, including a relay race, tug-of-war, score-a-goal, etc.
There were activities and attractions for people of different age groups and children of ABA Group employees, in particular, were seen having a great time. The fancy dress competition for kids turned out to be one of the biggest attractions, with the ‘Aquatic’ theme aiming to increase awareness about water conservation.
Nabeel Ali Bin Ali, vice-vhairman and EVP of Ali Bin Ali Group, attended the event and participated in the activities. Confirming his support to Qatar’s initiative to promote a healthy lifestyle, he said: “We have been celebrating the well-being of our employees and their families for the past 11 years by dedicating a whole day to sports and gaming activities.
Sport Day has now become our tradition and we believe it should be a lifestyle for all residents of Qatar.”
The head of the event’s organising committee, Mohamed Imran, said they were happy that the participation and involvement of ABA staff members in the Olympic Day was increasing with each passing year.
He hoped that this trend would continue in line with ABA Group’s slogan, ‘Together we work, together we play’. The eventful day ended with the distribution of medals, prizes and a raffle draw.
