Qatar Olympic Committee (QOC) president HE Sheikh Joaan bin Hamad al-Thani said that National Sport Day is an exceptional occasion for community members to celebrate sport, pointing out that the committee aims at raising awareness among those who live in Qatar on the importance of physical fitness.
HE Sheikh Joaan said that Qatar is proud of being one of the first countries in the world and the first in the Middle East to devote a holiday to sports day for all residents. In order to enrich this event, he said, QOC is organising 72 sporting events for all community members of all ages on the day, with the aim of giving everyone the opportunity to practice sport.
This year, he added, fun and benefit will be the primary goal of organising all sports activities, noting that QOC encourages everyone to participate in this event and enjoy a lively and active day.
The achievements of Team Qatar champions are a source of inspiration and a good example for youth, Sheikh Joaan said, adding that QOC is delighted to have many of them in this year’s sporting event.
