The Sri Lankan community in Qatar will celebrate their country’s 70th Independence Day with a cultural programme on February 16 at Qatar National Convention Centre.
Sri Lanka’s Independence Day falls on February 4.
The cultural show is being organised by the Sri Lankan embassy in collaboration with the Sri Lankan Co-ordinating Committee (SLCC) Qatar. Sri Lankan ambassador ASP Liyanage will be the chief guest.
Ooredoo will be the platinum sponsor of the programme this year, too, SLCC Qatar has said in a press statement.
The programme starts at 5pm and the gates open at 3pm.
The Pathum Danansooriya Cultural Ensemble is being flown in from Sri Lanka for the celebration. The troupe, which will perform traditional dances, has enthralled audiences across the globe with their performances on stage. This is their first visit to Doha and the audience “can be assured of an entertaining evening of dance during the celebration,” the statement noted.
The finals of the Qatar Gee Tharu Dahana Season 2, a singing competition for the expatriate Sri Lankan community in Qatar, will also be held at the conclusion of the cultural programme.
Popular artistes Yashoda Wimaladharma and Nadeeka Guruge will attend the grand finale. Also, children from the dance academy of Dinu Rangayathanaya, choreographed by Dinuk Lawrance, will showcase their talents at the grand finale.
Tickets for the two programmes are priced at QR100 and QR70.
