Uganda’s Deusdenit Muhumuza was adjudged Man of the Match after he scalped six wickets for 26 runs.

By Sports Reporter/Doha

Four overs of Deusdedit Muhumuza wreaked havoc in the President’s XI batting line-up but some tight bowling from the hosts ensured that they handed Uganda a 13-run defeat in the first Twenty20 match of the tour on Thursday night.
Medium pacer Muhumuza’s six-wicket haul had the hosts in trouble after they were asked to bat first, with only Nafees and all-rounder Waleed holding fort long enough to put 130 runs on the board for the loss of eight wickets in their 20 overs.
Nafees and Waleed added 31 runs each to the total, while Muhumuza returned with impressive figures of 6 for 26.
President’s XI bowlers made a fight out of a modest 131-run target at the Asian Town Cricket Stadium in the Industrial Area.
Waleed and captain Tamoor Sajjad grabbed two scalps each as Uganda, who are coached by former Kenyan international Steve Tikolo, couldn’t capitalise on the wickets in hand, and were restricted to 117 for five.
Uganda captain Roger Mukasa was the top-scorer for his team with 33 runs, while teammates Zephania Arinaitwe and Hamu Kayondo Bagenda hit 27 and 23 respectively.
The loss wouldn’t have been the kind of start that Tikolo’s men would have hoped for in the first match of the tour, that now sees them take on Qatar national team in a 50-over-a-side match.
