The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of the Ministry of Interior (MoI) has managed to foil a considerable number of cyber crimes, mostly blackmailing, and other economic crimes.
Speaking to local Arabic daily Arrayah, CID assistant director Lieutenant Colonel Ali Hassan al-Kubaisi pointed out that an inspection campaign on mobile repair and maintenance workshops resulted in the confiscation of 60 computers, where personal data retrieved from customers' devices were uploaded and stored.
Lieutenant Colonel al-Kubisi stressed the importance of international co-operation among the security departments concerned to combat such crimes.
As an example, he pointed out the success of the department in foiling a crime of child abuse on the internet with the co-operation of the Interpol.
The deputy head of the involved gang, an Asian man, who was living in Qatar, and other members in Western countries were attempting to sell child pornography.
Through international cooperation all the involved were arrested simultaneously, he added.
