Al Emadi Hospital yesterday hosted a blood donation campaign at the Out Patient Clinics building for its employees and the public.
The initiative was part of Al Emadi Hospital’s “commitment to support the local community”, it said in a statement.
The blood donation drive, a collaboration between Al Emadi Hospital and Hamad Medical Corporation (HMC), was conducted to help increase blood supply in Qatar, the statement noted.
Dr Mohamed Abdulla al-Emadi, chairman of the board of directors, said: “As a private healthcare provider, it is our responsibility to support our local community and those in need. We hope to raise awareness and educate our staff through this initiative on the numerous benefits of donating blood. We are always keen and proud to host such events at Al Emadi Hospital, which highlights the many ways we can all make an important contribution to our local community through these worthy causes.”
A large number of employees and people participated in the blood donation campaign.
Blood donation offers many benefits to both the donor and the recipient. While the recipient receives the specific blood type s/he needs to recover from illness or injury, the donor also benefits from the process, as donating blood is believed to help in lowering the risk of cardiovascular diseases as well as certain forms of cancer.
In addition to being accredited by Accreditation Canada International, Al Emadi Hospital was also accredited in September 2015 as a Center of Excellence in Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery from The Surgical Review Corporation – US, and was the first hospital in Qatar to receive this acknowledgement. Al Emadi Hospital is also the first private healthcare facility to be accredited in Qatar by the Ministry of Public Health as a CME Facility Accredited Provider, the statement added.
Moreover, the hospital’s chairman, founder and General & Bariatric Surgery senior consultant, Dr al-Emadi, has received the ‘Surgeon of Excellence in Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery’ certificate for his distinguished career and achievements in bariatric and metabolic procedures.
