Mubarak Yousuf al-Rumaihi was in splendid form as he took day one honours on the opening day of the sixth leg of Hathab – the national equestrian series – at the Al Shaqab indoor arena yesterday.
The Qatar Armed Forces rider, who is currently placed third in the Big Tour overall points tally, rode chestnut gelding Viking D with poise and composure to top the Table A, One round against the clock 115/125cm class in 69.60 seconds.
Mohammed Said Haidan on bay mare Corrado’s Coriana finished second, coming home in 72.22secs, while Jaber Rashid al-Amri riding Belucci Van T’Vleminkhof ended up as third in 72.83secs.
Earlier, Ghanim al-Nasser Qadi of Al Shaqab excelled in the Small Tour winning the Table A, One round against the clock with jump off event in 28.88secs with a smooth and flawless show on Fudine, a chestnut mare.
The win will shore Ghanim up from his current fifth place (37 points) in the overall standings. Throwing herself up as a surprise runner-up was Carlota Vincente Alarcon, also of Al Shaqab, astride Calva Z on home turf. She clocked 33.36secs.
Saeed Nasser al-Qadi, riding Desperadito, had to settle for the third place finishing in 35.46secs.
Today, the competitions will begin at 9 am with dressage which will be followed by the Medium Tour and Big Tour later in the afternoon and evening.
