Having won the Al Shaqab Cup on Wednesday with Jassim bin Ali al-Attiyah-owned Rassan, the Briton guided Injaaz Stud’s Izzthatright to a fantastic victory on turf at the Qatar Racing and Equestrian Club (QREC) yesterday.
The six-year-old held a slight advantage after coming off the gates on the back straight and then pulled away once on the home stretch to finish a comfortable one-and-a-half length ahead of Mohamed Hussain’s Risk Adjusted, who beat Ibrahim al-Malki’s Victory Laurel by a short head.
Bentley’s two other wins on the day were with horses trained by Ghazali’s son, Mohamed, and owned by Sheail bin Khalifa al-Kuwari.
While Mualah shed her maiden status on her fourth career outing in the Thoroughbred Maiden Plate event, Zahwa topped the Purebred Arabian Handicap miler for horses rated 95 and below.
Another trainer with a double on the day was Julian Smart, whose wards were ridden to victory by Theo Bachelot in the famous colours of His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Khalifa al-Thani.
Kynoch opened the day with his maiden victory in the Thoroughbred Maiden Plate event for three-year-old horses, while Off He Goes made it two straight wins with a course and distance win in the 1850m Thoroughbred Handicap event for horses rated 80 and below.
Earlier in the day, Zakhir Stud’s Elwan and Mohamed Khalifa al-Sowaidi’s Di Na Py were among the Purebred Arabians to shed their respective maiden status.
Among the local Thoroughbreds, Ibrahim al-Malki-saddled Mister Lal registered his first career win under Eduardo Pedroza, while Qatari jockey Rashid Ali al-Marri helmed Queen Maouya to her maiden victory in 14 starts.
