The Qatar Cricket Association (QCA), under the presidency of Yousef Jeham al-Kuwari, has been keen to build a strong base of cricketers at the grass-root level. After having hosted the Cricket Festival for boys aged between 7 and 11 years at various schools, it conducted a coaching clinic at the Bangladesh MHM School and College.
The coaching programme was a success with 177 students taking part, and completing it with dedication and commitment.
The QCA deployed its qualified coaches, who had prepared an extensive orientation plan for the young students. Aruna De Silva, Abdul Salam Mohamed Sheik, MAP Anil Perera, Ravi Seeni Vellapandian, Praveeth Kumar Pattika and Suneth Peiris, assisted by school sports teachers Mohamed Delwar and Amir Nafgis Khan, held practical sessions and gave tips in bowling, batting and fielding. The coaches also focused on the importance of fitness. They urged the students to take out some time and practise the game every week to improve their skills.
QCA officials Amin Ul Islam, head of Schools Cricket at the QCA, and Mohamed Asif Raza, head of Accountant and Logistics, supervised the clinic and ensured a smooth ending.
QCA Operations manager Manzoor Ahmad thanked vice-principal MD Zulfiker Azad for the co-operation and his active role in the successful completion of the coaching programme. He also presented a memento to the principal during the closing ceremony as a token of appreciation.
