Poor visibility due to fog is once again expected in the country in the early hours today, followed by strong winds and dusty conditions, the Qatar Met department has said.
The weather office has also issued a marine warning for strong winds and high seas today.
Doha and other parts of the country experienced dense fog yesterday, which led to a sharp drop in visibility along many roads. High humidity was also observed. Images and videos showing thick fog and low visibility were shared on social media, and the authorities concerned reminded people to drive cautiously under such conditions. 
Traffic flow is slow as visibility is low due to heavy fog on most internal and external roads, the Ministry of Interior (MoI) tweeted yesterday morning. “Please follow safe driving practices and co-operate with traffic cops,” it advised. The MoI also re-issued an advisory on safe driving in fog.
The Met department later said on Twitter that fog and poor visibility were expected again in some places from late yesterday evening, and the conditions would continue into this morning.
Today’s detailed forecast says the wind speed (northwesterly) will be 10-20 knots inshore, going up to 25 knots in some places at times. Offshore, the wind speed (northwesterly) will be 15-25 knots, reaching a high of 32 knots occasionally.
Hazy to misty/foggy conditions are likely in inshore areas at first, followed by slight to blowing dust in some places. It will be cold by night. Visibility, meanwhile, may drop to 2km or less.
Slightly dusty conditions have been forecast in offshore areas, with the sea level rising to 12ft at times. An announcement on the Met department’s Twitter page said the marine warning would be in place until tomorrow, caused by strong northwesterly winds.
The department urged people to avoid all sea activities in view of the expected conditions. It is also likely to be warmer around the country today, compared to the past 3-4 days when the mercury level dropped to as low as 4-6C in some places, weather charts show. Today, the minimum temperature is expected to be 10 in Abu Samra, 12C in Wakrah, Mesaieed and Al Khor, and 14C in Doha.

Al Shabat season begins

The Al Shabat season began yesterday and is likely to continue for 26 days, the Qatar Met department has said. In general, it becomes cooler during this period and the season is also marked by strong northwesterly winds. Also, chances for scattered rain increase and fog is experienced during the morning, the department said.
