Qatar Tennis Federation (QTF) announced that the top 10 ranked women’s tennis players will compete in the Qatar Total Open to be held at Khalifa International Tennis and Squash Complex from from February 12-18.
Secretary-General of QTF Tariq al-Zainal said that the top 10 players confirmed their participation are Simona Halep, Caroline Wozniacki, Garbine Muguruza, Elina Svitolina, Venus Williams, Karolina Pliskova, Jelena Ostapenko, Caroline Garcia, Johanna Konta, and Coco Vandeweghe. On whether former world No1 Maria Sharapova will take part, Zainal said that the organising committee will examine inviting the player if she requests to take part.
Director of the competition Saad al-Mohannadi said that preparation for hosting the event is complete, and said that the organising committee is ready to host one of the strongest tournaments in the region for women’s tennis. Tickets will be available for sale online and in various malls in order to give fans of the game a chance to watch their favourite tennis players. The tickets are available in City Center, Landmark, Lagoona, and Villagio malls.
Pliskova is the title holder of the competition, following her win in the final last year against current world No 2 Caroline Wozniacki.
