The siege on Qatar has no moral or legal grounds, Doha resident Sarfaraz Jahangir told Qatar Urdu Radio’s live show Haqeeqat yesterday.
He discussed the report issued by the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights on the impact of the Gulf crisis on human rights.
“The report has asked for an immediate explanation of the one-sided siege because of all the human rights violations. The committee has also called on the blockading countries to allow them to meet people in their countries and see how it’s affecting them,” he said.
“The report details different categories to show how people were affected by the siege. This includes Qatari citizens; students; different GCC nationals who were told to immediately leave Qatar; as well as migrant workers in the entire region,” explained Jahangir, an architect by profession.
“The report compares the siege to an economic war imposed on Qatar. It was clear that the blockading countries wanted to target the business and finance sector in Qatar. This was a kind of extreme common punishment for an entire nation,” he added.
Haqeeqat is a joint venture of the Gulf Times and Qatar Media Corp Urdu Radio. The show, hosted by Saif-ur-Rehman, aims to engage and interact with the large South Asian expatriate community in Qatar.
