Al Arabi and Al Wakrah registered victories in the Qatar Basketball League at the Gharafa Sports Club yesterday.
Arabi overcame Qatar Sports Club (QSC) 80-78, while Wakrah defeated Al Shamal 100-84. In the first match of the day, Arabi’s William Byrd pulled off a buzzer-beating shot to score a pulsating victory over QSC.
QSC looked all set to post their eighth win, going 13 points ahead in the final quarter (62-49), but Arabi staged a great recovery in the final quarter and tied the scores with Oumar Seck shot with only 30 seconds left.
Al Arabi players were outscored in the second and third quarters but they had an impressive 33-18 edge in the last 10 minutes play, which did the trick for them.
Byrd scored 24 points with 15 rebounds, while Seck posted 15 points and 16 rebounds. Nicholas Stover chipped in 21 and Khalid Suliman Abdi netted 11.
For Qatar Sports Club, Brandan Kearney was the top scorer with 22, while Daishon Knight netted 17, Nicholas West collected 14 points and 10 rebounds and Yousif Mohamed managed eight points and 12 rebounds.
In the second match of the day, Al Wakrah’s Earnest Ross was the top scorer with 29 points, while Adamu Sakka scored 29.
