Prof Syed Javaid Zaidi, chair professor of chemical engineering and chair of the Centre for Advanced Materials at Qatar University, has been honoured with a lifetime achievement award for his contributions in the field of chemical engineering by Venus International Foundation at a ceremony in Chennai, India.
The Venus International Research Award for lifetime achievement was presented at a ceremony attended by delegates from more than 15 countries. Prof  Zaidi holds 15 patents and patent applications for the new discoveries and inventions to his credit. His achievements include the invention of a new process for the removal of heavy metals from wastewater, which are toxic and harmful to health. He patented new technology for clean energy device fuel cells for automobiles and backup power applications.
Prof Zaidi has published more than 200 research articles in international journals and conferences. Recognising his outstanding research record, he has been invited to serve in the Advisory Council of Arab Water Desalination.
In addition, Prof Zaidi has delivered more than 120 presentations and talks at various international forums, conferences and symposiums and institutions in more than 20 countries. He is the first and only scientist living in Qatar to receive this award.
