Mowasalat (Karwa) in association with local institutions and associations organised a Health & Safety Week event in the Karwa City earlier this month.

Along with the staff at the Mowasalat Medical Center, the event had the participation of the members from the Qatar Red Crescent, Qatar Diabetes Association and Qatar Cancer Society.

The weeklong programme featured free basic health checkup as well as a number of awareness sessions and presentations on health, safety, proper nutrition and first aid training among others. A number of specialist doctors also attended the sessions.

In partnership with other institutions Mowasalat's Health, Safety and Environment Department presented many interactive programmes. The Civil Defence's live demonstrations added value stressing on the importance of safety at work place, home, environment and lives.

This event is part of Mowasalat’s planned annual activities to spread awareness for general health and safety at all levels in addition to help the company’s employees and drivers to fulfill their duties in a healthy and safe environment.

Mowasalat chairman Nasser bin Mohamed al-Malki, managing director and CEO Khalid Nasser al-Hail, managers, head of different sections and a large number of drivers and other operations staff attended the sessions.

Mowasalat also held its two-day Year End Festival and the closing ceremony of the Chairman Cup for its drivers and support staff. At the Chairman Cup's closing ceremony al-Malki and al-Hail gave away prizes. Certificates of appreciation were awarded to the event organising committee. The day's proceedings also featured many raffle draws for company drivers.

An array of entertainment and artistic programmes of operational staff of different nationalities were held. They included events in Hindi, Nepali, Malayalam, Tamil, English, African and Arabic languages.

A “Talent Show” for employees, which aimed at exhibiting their talents, skills and creativity in music and arts were held.

Al-Hail said the hosting of such events would help developing closeness and cohesion among employees. "This would eventually help creating an interactive work environment in the organisation," he said.

The official also added Mowasalat organised such events as it feels the company has a social responsibility to encourage employees to participate and demonstrate their support, solidarity and friendliness.

"This has a remarkably good effect on increasing productivity at work through cultural bonding and social connections among the employees, creating a healthy and interactive work environment."
