The introduction of new shipping routes for Qatar-bound cargo saved many traders from potential financial losses, Doha-resident Ishtiyaq Hussain Bangash told Qatar Urdu Radio’s live show Haqeeqat yesterday.
“Many shipments and cargo items were stuck at the Jebel Ali port when the siege was announced and naturally everyone was concerned,” said the general manager of a cargo company.
Qatar immediately introduced new shipment routes from Asia and Oman and the quick measures ensured minimum losses for traders, he recalled. Bangash, who started the first Pakistani cargo company in 1998, is a very active social worker. “The priority of the government was to bring all the Doha-bound containers from the Jebel Ali port as soon as possible. It wasn’t an easy task because the usual sea routes were all suddenly closed but the steadfast policies of Qatari leadership was the key to quick recovery.”
“I’ve lived in Qatar for many years now and every time I return from a trip abroad I feel like I’ve come home. The people are always welcoming and we feel thankful to the government for the initiatives taken to support the expatriate communities here.”
Haqeeqat is a joint venture of the Gulf Times and Qatar Media Corp Urdu Radio. The show, hosted by Saif-ur-Rehman, aims to engage and interact with the large South Asian expatriate community in Qatar.
