Health and safety professionals from the Supreme Committee for Delivery & Legacy (SC) – Qatar’s 2022 FIFA World Cup organising body – recently attended the company’s inaugural Knowledge Transfer Day.
Organised by the Health, Safety, Security & Environment Division, in collaboration with the Workers’ Welfare Department, the event provided an opportunity for more than 100 executives, contractors and stakeholders to share knowledge, opinions and issues related to the organisation and legacy of the 2022 FIFA World Cup.
The event, which included speeches, breakout sessions, team building activities and presentations, reaffirmed the SC’s commitment to sharing information about health and safety issues, while promoting the importance of knowledge transfer between internal stakeholders. Hassan al-Thawadi, the SC’s secretary-general, said the event supported Qatar’s commitment to leaving a strong legacy across numerous fields. “When we bid to host the World Cup, we promised to leave a legacy of economic and human development in Qatar and across the region,” said al-Thawadi.
“That promise drives the work our organisation does every day, enhancing the safety and well-being of our workforce. But the true value of legacy lies in our ability to pass on what we have learned in a manner that will increase the resilience of future generations in Qatar and across the Middle East.
“Events such as the Knowledge Transfer Day highlight our commitment to creating a safe space for industry experts to share and learn in an open and supportive environment. It’s about sharing challenges, successes and failures in a way that will contribute to our performance.”
Hilal al-Kuwari, chairman of the SC’s Technical Delivery Office, said delivering the 2022 FIFA World Cup safely and securely was Qatar’s number one priority. “Everyone involved in preparations for the tournament takes the responsibility to deliver it safely and securely very seriously,” said al-Kuwari.
“It is vital we learn from our challenges, successes and failures so we can become stronger, more efficient and more resilient. We need to ensure we have a continuous flow of knowledge sharing across all sites so we can continue to improve. There is a wealth of insight and expertise among us and now is the time to make the most of these skills through knowledge sharing.”
The event, which was held at the Sheraton Grand Doha Resort, will be used as a springboard to enhance the SC’s culture of learning and knowledge sharing. Excellent feedback was received from participants, while Qatar Behavioural Insights Unit will track the commitments made during the event, in an effort to formulate the best ways for sharing knowledge going forward.
