HE Sheikha Hind bint Hamad al-Thani, vice chairperson and chief executive officer of Qatar Foundation (QF), and HE Sheikh Joaan bin Hamad al-Thani, chairman of Qatar Leadership Academy (QLA), joined more than 1,500 students, parents, educators from Pre-University Education (PUE), and QF senior officials at a colourful celebration yesterday, commemorating Qatar National Day.
Also in attendance were engineer Saad Ibrahim al-Muhannadi, lifetime member of the board of directors, QF, and Buthaina A al-Nuaimi, president of PUE, QF.
The celebration, which took place at the Qatar National Convention Centre, included a specially produced National Day operetta featuring the voices and talents of over 500 students, as well as a variety of local heritage activities.
The PUE celebration included students from across Qatar Academy schools, Awsaj Academy, and QLA, and provided participants with the opportunity to express their feelings about Qatar and what National Day means to them. Additionally, by incorporating traditional songs into the event, it served as a chance for the audience to reminisce.
Al-Nuaimi said: “Today’s performances, organised as part of our Qatar National Day celebrations, give our youngest citizens the opportunity to celebrate local traditions, values, and culture. The event also serves as a platform for our students to show their love for this great and wonderful country.
“Additionally, this event highlights Qatar Foundation’s commitment to fostering a generation of youth grounded in culture and values.”
The PUE National Day celebration highlighted the diverse talents within Education City and QF’s schools, and was designed to demonstrate the bonds that strengthen the wider community and how they support Qatar through preserving the country’s culture and heritage.
This national project was developed and organised by the PUE National Day Event Committee, which was led by the PUE communications team, and included teachers and staff from all QF schools, in addition to staff from the history department at QF’s Education Development Institute. The event was sponsored by Ooredoo, Al Rayyan Satellite Channel, Fahad Signature, and La Photo Studio.
Waleed al-Sayed, chief executive officer of Ooredoo Qatar, said: “Ooredoo believes in the power of communication to provide everyone with an opportunity to show their pride in our country, and the Pre-University Education’s schools’ operetta was a great example of this.”
Sabah al-Kuwari, general manager of Al Rayyan Satellite Channel, said: “This collaboration is in line with Al Rayyan’s social responsibility to serve the country’s National Vision and enhance co-operation between different entities.”
