The Punjab Musical Group-Qatar is bringing classical musicians from Pakistan and India to celebrate the Qatar National Day.
The two-day singing programme will start today at Akbar Restaurant. From Pakistan, Ustad Kalay Khan Bhag is coming. Shahida Murtaza, a Pakistani actress, will conduct the programme. Priti Vikram Nath, a classical singer and music teacher from India, will also perform.  
Ustad Kalay Khan told Community, “I received my early music education and training from legendary Pakistani singer Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan. My father used to play second harmonium with Nusrat. My primary teacher was my father. I have sung in Pakistan and India. I have also sung for Indian and Pakistani movies as playback singer.”
He added, “I have been singing classical, folk, qawali, and ghazal. For the programme, I will focus on classical songs. I will also sing the songs desired by the audience.”
Priti told Community, “I started learning how to sing when I was in Grade IV. I have taken part in Indian Idol, a music competition in India. I have learnt classical music from a well-known academy in Mumbai. I have also sung as playback for a regional Indian movie and have also been teaching classical music to children in India.”
She added, “My husband works in Qatar. I have started living in Qatar and have started teaching classical music at the Indian Culture Centre. I am also associated with the Skills Development Centre in Qatar as a music teacher. I will sing classical songs and qawali at the programme for Qatar National Day.”
Nazakat Ali Khan, founder of Punjab Musical Group, said that they are organising the event to celebrate Qatar National Day and to express solidarity with the country.
