Hamad Medical Corporation’s Women’s Wellness and Research Centre recently opened its Gynaecology Day Surgery Unit for women requiring specialist gynaecological procedures that do not necessitate an overnight stay in hospital.
Dr Abdulla al-Ansari, acting chief medical officer for HMC, said the Women’s Wellness and Research Centre is helping to address the growing need for more comprehensive patient-focused medical services for women in Qatar.
“The continued opening of new services at our Medical City hospitals reinforces Hamad’s commitment to providing the people of Qatar with high-quality, world-class healthcare,” he said.
“The Gynaecology Day Surgery Unit is revolutionising healthcare delivery in the country by allowing patients to have their surgery and then return home on the same day to recover. This week marks the first daycare surgeries at the Gynecology Day Surgery Unit and is an important step towards increasing our capacity to perform more surgeries, improving access to healthcare for patients who require specialised care and allowing us to treat those in need more quickly.”
Dr Moayyad Ahmed Younis, consultant, Obstetrics and Gynaecology at Women’s Wellness and Research Centre said: “The Gynaecology Day Surgery Unit will provide many benefits to women and is considered the best option for almost all of our patients undergoing non-complex elective surgical procedures.”
“By providing this service for more women, our goal is to not only help our patients achieve a safe and successful gynaecological procedure but to also preserve or improve their quality of life,” he added.
The dedicated Gynaecology Day Surgery Unit will offer state-of-the-art surgical suites, fully equipped to perform day case surgeries including laparoscopy, cryocautery, hysteroscopy, colposcopy, tubal ligation, cauterisation, cervical biopsy and perineal repair.
The unit has six beds and is situated adjacent to the operating theatre suite in the Women’s Wellness and Research Centre. The unit has fully equipped surgical suites, all with the equipment and monitoring devices necessary to perform gynaecological day case surgeries.
The Women’s Wellness and Research Centre will offer day case surgeries four times a week for patients referred from Women’s Hospital. Women interested in day case surgery should speak to their physician to determine if they are a candidate.
