Ambassador of the Republic of Hungary in the country Fodor Barnabas stressed yesterday that Qatar has succeeded in managing the crisis caused by the siege enforced on it.
He also highlighted the strong emotions shown by Qatari citizens and residents alike.
He also said that the crisis had severe social impacts such as the one it had on families.
He was speaking at a seminar on Hungarian-Qatari ties organised by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Diplomatic Institute.
The ambassador said that resolving the crisis will be through dialogue between all parties involved.
He said the bigger countries in the world must play a bigger role in convincing the parties involved on the importance of having a direct and comprehensive talk on the crisis.
He maintained however his expectation that the crisis will drag on because it was based on a number of factors and had great negative consequences.
He also said that his country worked on finding a diplomatic resolution to the crisis and encouraged the parties involved to come to the negotiation table.
He dismissed accusations made against Qatar regarding financing terrorism.
He said that Qatar was actively involved in the fight against terrorism and hosts one of the biggest US military bases that is engaged in the fight against terrorism.
The ambassador also highlighted that the State of Qatar signed an agreement with the US to counter the financing of terrorism, stressing that Hungary considers Qatar a partner in counter-terrorism efforts.
He then moved to discuss bilateral ties, and said that they began in 1990.
He noted that establishing embassies contributed to identifying the investment opportunities available for both countries.
He also highlighted that the safety and security of Hungary will contribute in maintaining Qatari capital. Bilateral trade has reached QR2bn.
The ambassador said that both countries were working on enhancing trade and scientific research ties. He expressed his gratitude to Qatari authorities for providing entry visa to citizens on arrival.
He expressed his hope that the Qatari-Hungarian committee will resume work soon to focus on signing agreements to prevent tax duplicity.
