Qatari men’s curling team registered their first international win when they beat Kazakhstan 8-5 in the round robin stage of World Curling Federation’s Pacific Asia Curling Championships 2017. The event, held in Erina, Australia, saw Qatar participate at the continental level only for the second time. Nabeel Alyafei, Ahmad al-Fahad, Abdulrahman Alyafei and Salem Ali represented Qatar. In the short history of Qatar Curling Federation, this is an important milestone. Qatar finished eighth in the event. “It was a great Championship. The win gives us a push to improve and play better at other competitions,” captain Alyafei said after the competition. The national curling team practise at Villaggio on weekly basis.

Al Ahli victorious in Asian Club handball

Qatar’s Al Ahli recorded a 39-30 victory over Uzbekistan’s Racor in the prestigious AHF Asian Men’s Club Handball Championship 2017 held in Hyderabad, India, on Tuesday. In another match, Qatar’s Duhail were held to a draw by Al Sharjah of United Arab Emirates. The event is a qualifying tournament for the IHF Super Globe 2018. Group A includes Duhail (Qatar), Al Sharjah (UAE), Oil club (Iran), Muscat (Oman), while group B includes Al Ahli (Qatar), Service (India), Racor ( Uzbekistan), Najma (Bahrain), Police (Iraq). It’s the first time India hosting the Asian championship. Qatar’s Al Sadd hold the record of winning the Asian title five times in 2000, 2001, 2002, 2003 and 2005.
