Four teams are set to compete in the semi-finals of the fifth University League today, starting 7pm at Qatar Foundation’s (QF’s) Recreation Center, pitch 1.
Group A winner, Texas A&M University at Qatar (TAMU-Q), will face Group B runners-up, Qatar Aeronautical College (QAC). TAMU-Q had amassed 10 points to top their group, while QAC had four points, finishing behind Qatar University (QU) at six points.
The second semi-final of the night will see QU play Group A’s second place team, Carnegie Mellon University in Qatar (CMU-Q), who had eight points from the group stages.
Hilal al-Mohannadi, chairman of the Sub-Leagues Committee, Qatar Football Association (QFA), said: “We are very happy with the level of competitiveness witnessed between the students this year, and wish the four teams the best of luck in reaching the finals. The University League is an initiative that demonstrates QFA’s social responsibility strategy in providing a platform for students at college and university level to play organised football.”
Mohammed al-Saoud, head of Recreation Services, QF, added: “The University League is a wonderful initiative as it aims to encourage young adults to lead active, healthier lifestyles. It’s been great to see so many different teams from across Qatar come together in Education City’s Recreation Center to compete. We are a week away from the finals, and we are all looking forward to seeing who takes home the highly-coveted title this year.”
Organised by QFA and QF, the University League started in 2013 and encourages participation from all colleges and universities across Qatar.
The University League this year is sponsored by the Supreme Committee for Delivery & Legacy as the official strategic partner, Ooredoo as the official telecommunication partner, Qatar National Bank as the exclusive financial partner, Nike as the official supplier, and Al Kass Sports Channels as the official broadcaster.
