The organising committee of the Schools Olympic Program (SOP) held a technical meeting on Sunday with the directors of the competitions in the group games participating in the programme.
The meeting aims to discuss the work mechanism in the next phase and the latest developments in the competitions through reports from the competition directors as well as the participation of the private schools in the competitions according to the schedule issued by the technical committee of the SOP.
The meeting was attended by the technical expert at the Qatar School Sports Federation Dr Salaheddin Salem and a number of directors of competitions in the federations participating in the competitions.
The school Olympic program is overseen by the Qatar Olympic Committee (QOC), the Ministry of Education and Higher Education and the Qatar School Sports Federation.
During the meeting, Dr Salaheddin Salem thanked all of them for their efforts and contributions that led to the success of the activities of the programme from its inception until its current version.
He then talked about the objectives of the SOP, which was to support the development of sport in Qatar and raise the level of awareness of sports concepts and Olympic values.
The meeting also discussed the proposed schedule of the organising committee of the programme and its distribution to the competitions directors to confirm the dates and prepare the competitions plan, especially with the beginning of the participation of the private schools in the programme, as well as the confirmation of the lists of participants and the rules and regulations of the competitions.
The meeting also dealt with booking stadiums for competitions and the equipment required for all games.
The technical expert at the Qatar School Sports Federation stressed that the SOP has achieved several achievements, such as the number of students participating in it which is constantly increasing, and the slogans that contribute to the establishment of many of the noble meanings.
He said that the organising committee considers these successes the fruit of collective action and it thanks the teachers for their outstanding contributions that have led the programme to achieve that great success.
Dr Salem revealed that a map containing the schools hosting the competitions has been distributed. He noted that all students participating have been registered according to the QOC sports system which represents a database with information on all participants.
The technical expert at the Qatar School Sports Federation presented the rules and regulations of the SOP at the end of the meeting. He pointed out to the important role of the referees of the competitions and technicians in the application of all laws and regulations.
Dr Salaheddin Salem pointed out that the organising committee of the SOP set the objectives of the programme this year which are to establish a sports culture that calls for sports for better health and life as well as providing an attractive environment for students to encourage the exercise of physical activities.
