Tom Whateley of Team Velostar won the category A race of the second stage of Air Maroc League, sponsored by Royal Air Maroc, on Friday at Dukhan.
Whateley clocked 2:12:02 to win ahead of second-placed Qatari cyclist Mohamed al-Farizi. Fred Watson from Velostar finished third after the 86km race during which every rider was supposed to finish two laps.
Velostar’s John Hancock was first with a timing of 1:47:50 in the 66km category B. Andrew Tangonan from Pinoy Roadies Qatar finished second and Walberto Dela Cruz third.
Zaid Hamza from Qatar national junior team won the category C (46km) race (1:23:52). Saeed al-Kuwari and Ronald Balorio from PCCQ were second and third, respectively.
In the women’s category, Julie Melville of AndyBrownProRacing won gold with a timing of 32:24.5. Jennifer Gibbons and Carmel Lord both from AndyBrownProRacing finished second and third respectively.
Kathrine Gomez of TriClub Doha finished the race in 37:03.6 to emerge as winner of the women’s category B. Carmel Lord from AndyBrownProRacing claimed the second position and Helena Corby clinched third place.
