The third Fath al-Kheir voyage will start its journey today (November 17) at 4pm with a traditional opening at the Katara beach before sailing to Kuwait.
Manned by 16 Qatari sailors led by Captain Mohamed Youssef al-Sada, the voyage will proceed from Kuwait to Oman before returning to Qatar in time for the National Day celebration on December 18.
The Fath al-Kheir Voyage is one of the highlights of the seventh Katara Traditional Dhow Festival, which features cultural performances and activities.
Since its opening on November 14, the event has been continuously attracting a large number of people from different age groups, preparatory and secondary students, dignitaries, and foreign visitors.
Qatari and expatriate artists are also participating in painting activities at Katara beach, giving visitors and art enthusiasts an opportunity to see their creative art works on site.
The photography contest at the festival has inspired many amateur and professional photographers from different art schools and nationalities.
Traditional performances by an Omani and Qatari ensemble, dressed in colourful attires and well-equipped with musical instruments such as drums, enthrall spectators with their maritime songs rendered by their ancestors during fishing or pearl-diving activities.
Audiences had the opportunity to witness various maritime traditions displayed by countries like Qatar, Kuwait, Oman, Iraq, Turkey, India, Greece, and Zanzibar.
Each country is displaying its maritime traditions.
Festivalgoers also have the chance to experience Qatar’s rich maritime heritage with the free traditional dhow shuttle services between Katara beach and The Pearl-Qatar.
