National Human Rights Committee (NHRC) Secretary-General Maryam bint Abdullah al-Attiyah said that celebrating Qatar Human Rights Day annually on November 11 commemorates the decision to establish NHRC, which transformed the promotion and protection of human rights in the State of Qatar.
She said that the culture of human rights is deep-rooted in the traditions of the Qatari citizen.
As NHRC celebrates the occasion today, the committee would be remembering the country’s achievements in human rights and would encourage society and institutions to promote the culture of human rights that has become a genuine measure of the civility of states and societies.
Al-Attiyah said that celebrating Qatar Human Rights Day this year is exceptional in light of the strenuous efforts the committee has exerted in order to expose the human rights violations resulting from the siege against Qatar and the committee’s huge success in this regard as well as international gains.
The NHRC secretary-general said that Qatar Human Rights Day has become a source of inspiration for the success that the State of Qatar has managed in different human rights fields – be it labour rights or the right to health and education.
She stressed that the State of Qatar proves at every possible forum its regional and international weight in the human rights arena, noting that the most recent occasion was Qatar’s election to the membership of the Human Rights Council for the second time in a row,
She called on citizens and residents to take part along with their families in NHRC’s celebrations of Qatar Human Rights Day, which will feature several educational segments.
