People in Qatar enjoy the freedom to express their opinions, Doha resident Malik Ghulammm Raza Pasha told Qatar Urdu Radio’s live show Haqeeqat yesterday.
“I’ve never felt any restrictions, and no one has ever told me what to say and what not to say here. Even when I came on this show, I was not given any briefing on the things I cannot say. This freedom is special, only in Qatar in the region,” Pasha said.
Recalling Doha Debates, Pasha said it was a forum for free speech in Qatar.
“I saw officials from countries, including Qatar, tackle sensitive issues,” he said, adding that the existence of Al Jazeera channel is proof of Qatar’s commitment to free speech.
Pasha, who moved to Qatar in 2013, said his life changed for the better because of the way Qatar promotes healthy lifestyle and sports.
Haqeeqat, which aims to engage and interact with the large South Asian community in Qatar, is a joint venture between Gulf Times and Qatar Media Corp Urdu Radio.
It is broadcast from Sunday to Thursday on FM107.
