An eight-race card on turf will kick start the 2017-2018 season at the Qatar Racing and Equestrian Club (QREC) at 4:30pm today.
The card features four races for Purebred Arabians, including two mile-long races, and three for Thoroughbreds, including the feature.
Al Thumama Racing’s Bronze Maquette will look to continue from where she left last season when she lines up for the feature Al Ghariya Cup, a seven-furlong run for Thoroughbreds fillies and mares.
Mohammed Hussain-trained mare, who was placed in all of her five races in Doha last season including four victories, will be up against the likes of Mohamed bin Hamad Khalifa al-Attiyah’s Zman Awal, the highest rated horse in the field at 103.
The total prize money pot for today’s race meeting is QR535,000, adding to the excitement of both racing fans and participants.
The QREC grounds will also see plenty of activities for families and racing fans alike throughout the season. The flat-racing season will continue until April next year and admission to the races is free of charge. The season will see a total of 48 race meetings, with the big race meetings, including HH the Emir’s Sword Festival, Qatar Derby, Qatar Oaks, Qatar Gold Sword, bringing in some of the biggest names in international horse racing for a shot at prestigious wins.
