The Indian embassy
held four consular camps this month for residents of Salwa, Mesaieed,
Al Khor, and Dukhan/Zikreet areas, the monthly community house was
informed last week.
Twenty-nine consular services were rendered at the sittings held in the four places.
The
monthly session was held at the embassy on October 26 to address urgent
consular and labour issues/cases experienced by Indian expatriates in
Qatar.
Some of the grievances brought to the attention of the embassy
related to issues of delayed payment of wages and violations of
contract terms and conditions.
Besides Indian ambassador P Kumaran,
third secretary (Labour and Community Welfare) M Aleem and other
officials met the complainants, discussed their problems in detail and
assured them of the embassy’s active follow up of their cases with the
relevant authorities.
The house was informed that an embassy team
visited the Central Prison and Deportation Centre to inquire about the
welfare of detainees from India.
The total number of Indian nationals in the Central Prison and the Deportation Centre currently is 215 and 77, respectively.
Since the start of the year, 10 community house sessions have been held, including the latest session.
A total of 52 complaints were received during these sessions.
Out of these, 40 complaints have been resolved, while the remainder (12) are under the active follow-up by the embassy.
The embassy has issued 31 Emergency Certificates this month to Indian nationals for their repatriation.
The mission also issued 18 air tickets to Indian nationals for their return home this month.
Indian
Community Benevolent Forum (ICBF) president Davis Edakulathur,
vice-president P N Baburajan, and members of the organisation’s managing
committee were also present.
The ICBF supports the efforts of the
embassy and helps Indian workers through various welfare measures,
including the supply of foodstuff, transport support, and medical
assistance.
The ICBF organised a programme under the “cleanliness is
service” campaign to coincide with Mahatma Gandhi’s birth anniversary on
October 2.
Around 100 workers took part in the event.
