Under the patronage of the Ministry of Public Health, Hamad Medical Corporation (HMC) will host the Second Qatar International Wound Management Conference 2017 from November 23 to 25 at Qatar National Convention Centre.

HMC established its specialised Wound Care Unit in 2009 at Hamad General Hospital and the service has provided care for almost 10,000 patients to date, according to a press statement.
The details of the conference were announced during a press conference by Dr Yousef al-Maslamani, medical director of Hamad General Hospital and chairman of the conference’s 2017 Scientific Committee.
According to Dr al-Maslamani, there is a growing demand for HMC’s wound care services due to a steady growth in Qatar’s population and consequently an increase in incidences of chronic diseases and other serious illnesses. This is in addition to complications or infections that may result after surgery. He said these factors have generated an even greater need to develop knowledge and explore the latest innovations in the field of wound care.
“We are proud of the success of our specialised multi-disciplinary wound care service. It has worked harmoniously across our network of hospitals to ensure that patients are receiving the safest, most effective and most compassionate care. We will take advantage of the knowledge and experience shared at this year’s conference to ensure our service is the best that it can be,” said Dr al-Maslamani.
Further details about this year’s conference were announced by Shaikha Ali al-Qahtani, director of Nursing for Wound Care at HMC and chair of the conference’s organising committee, Hassan al-Hail, executive director, Media and Public Relations at HMC, event organiser and sponsor Ammar Anabtawi - CEO of Final Vision, and Dr Thaher Beshtawi, medical manager at Qatar Datamation Systems, platinum sponsor.
According to al-Qahtani, this year’s conference theme - ‘Modernisation and Innovations in Wound Care' - aims to highlight current practices in wound care while examining innovative clinical procedures and medical technologies that can be used by healthcare practitioners to enhance common approaches to treating chronic wounds.
Al-Qahtani added that the three-day conference is expected to attract 1,500 healthcare professionals from a number of organisations across Qatar and the region, as well as renowned international speakers. As part of the conference agenda, attendees will explore a range of topics including the latest technologies, devices, and products used in the field.
Wound care has evolved into a modern and advanced medical specialisation aimed at providing a quality medical service that contributes to the healing of serious and chronic wounds to avoid dangerous complications.
