In a bid to centralise economic establishments and professionals under a national database, the cabinet approved a draft law on the unified economic registry and referred it to the Advisory Council. The Ministry of Economy and Commerce has prepared the draft law for the establishment of a precise database at the national level for all economic establishments in the country.
The project defined the unified economic register as a database in which economic establishments and professionals are recorded, as an individual enterprise, a company or entity engaged in any area of the economic sector.
The cabinet meeting at Emiri Diwan was chaired by HE the Prime Minister Sheikh Abdullah bin Nasser bin Khalifa al-Thani. After the meeting, HE the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of State for Cabinet Affairs Ahmed bin Abdullah bin Zaid al-Mahmoud said that the cabinet reviewed topics on the agenda.
Under the provisions of the bill, a unified economic registry will be established at the ministry, in which Qatari economic establishments and their branches as well as branches of non-Qatari enterprises operating in the country will be registered. The registry will also include individuals licensed to practice their professions. All those registered in the economic registry will be issued a number called 'Unified Economic Number' to be used in all transactions and papers relating to their activity.
The relevant administration will determine the mechanism for regulating the unified economic registry and the registration procedures. An electronic system may be used to regulate the economic registry. The cabinet also approved a draft cabinet decision on amending the organisation of some administrative units that comprise Ministry of Economy and Commerce and the designation of their powers.
It also endorsed a draft cabinet decision on amending the organisation of some administrative units that comprise the Public Works Authority and assigned their powers.
In addition, the meeting approved a draft cabinet decision on amending the powers of some administrative units comprising Qatar General Electricity and Water Corporation. Moreover, the session approved a cabinet decision to establish the standing committee for farmers and the regulation of farmers' affairs.
Meanwhile, the cabinet took the necessary measures to ratify a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on holding political dialogue on issues of common interest between the State of Qatar's Foreign Ministry and the Italian Republic's Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation.
The cabinet also approved a draft MoU between Qatar Financial Markets Authority and the International Capital Markets Association, and a draft memorandum of co-operation between Qatar Civil Aviation Authority and the Single European Sky ATM Research (SESAR) on air traffic.
Finally, the cabinet reviewed the second periodic report that was prepared by the Ministry of Development Planning and Statistics on the progress made in the implementation of the national development strategies of the State of Qatar (2011-2016), the challenges that faced the implementation and the proposed solutions, and took the appropriate decision in this regard.
