Sidra Medical and Research Center, renamed and re-branded as Sidra Medicine, will receive its first inpatient by mid-January next year, it was announced.
“Sidra Medicine’s first inpatients will be by appointment only," CEO Peter Morris told a press conference. Also in attendance were Dr Abdulla al-Kaabi, executive chair, Children’s Services Clinical Management Group, executive vice chief medical officer, and member of the Board of Governors; Prof Ibrahim Janahi, chair of medical education and designated institutional officer; Morag Gates, chief operating officer and Abdulrazaq al-Kuwari, chief of corporate services.
“Opening of Sidra Medicine will take place between January and May 2018 by which time all the services will be fully open. It will be a carefully planned step by step orderly process of the safe opening of all our services at Sidra," explained Morris.
"Until fully opened, Sidra Medicine will have inpatients only by appointment and thereafter emergency patients as well as women and labour at the hospital,” continued the official.
Sidra Medicine, a member of the Qatar Foundation for Education, Science and Community Development is an ultramodern hospital that will provide world class healthcare services for children, young people, and women.
“Today’s announcement is a major milestone in the realisation of HH Sheikha Moza bint Nasser’s, chairperson of Qatar Foundation, vision to create a beacon of learning, discovery, and exceptional care, ranked among the top academic medical centres in the world,” Morris told.
“To mark the opening of the inpatient facility, we have decided to adopt a new name and new brand for the hospital which will feature in all our communication and presentations.The name is derived from engagement and important conversations with the stakeholders and resulting in the approval by the board of governors,” added Morris.
Dr al-Kaabi, said “Sidra Medicine is committed to working with our partners in Qatar’s healthcare system, including Hamad Medical Corporation, Primary Health Care Corporation, and the Ministry of Public Health, to help deliver new standards in high quality care for children, young people, and women once Sidra Medicine is fully operational.”
Prof Janahi highlighted that the hospital will collaborate with the medical colleges in the country and will initiate strong academic and research programmes.
Sidra Medicine’s outpatient services was launched in May, 2016, and now operates 47 clinics and services related to paediatric and obstetrics care for children, young people, and women.
Sidra Medicine’s research programme has been in operation since 2015 and aims to develop world-leading science and research programmes that will align with Qatar’s national research strategy and also help address other public health issues.
