There is a weak chance of scattered rain in some parts of the country on Wednesday and Thursday, followed by a spell of strong winds during the weekend, the Qatar Met department has said.

The weather office has also issued a marine warning, which will stay in effect until Saturday night.

In a detailed forecast, the Met department said “local clouds are expected to form during the afternoon on Wednesday and Thursday” and there is also as “weak chance of scattered rain in some areas”.

In addition, fresh to strong northwesterly-northeasterly winds are likely from tomorrow until Saturday, ranging in speed from 6-16 knots and reaching a high of 22 knots inland during the day.

Meanwhile, the marine warnings begin on Thursday night and continue until Saturday night - with northwesterly winds expected to blow at speeds of 8-18 knots, going up to 25 knots at times. This, in turn, will result in waves as high as 7ft.

The temperature during this period will be around the average levels for this time of the year, with the maximum expected to range from 32-39C during the day and the minimum from 22-29C at night in different parts of the country, according to the forecast.

The Met department has called on people to be cautious and avoid sea activities during the warning period.

Meanwhile, the detailed weather report for Wednesday says strong winds and high seas are expected in offshore areas by the afternoon and slightly dusty conditions are also likely at times. The wind (northwesterly) speed may reach a high of 22 knots, with the sea level rising to 7ft.

Inland, poor visibility is again expected in certain areas in the early hours of the day dropping to 2km or less.

Hazy to foggy/misty conditions will prevail in some places at first, followed by a hot day. There is also a weak chance of local raincloud formation by the afternoon, the forecast adds.

A maximum temperature of 39C is expected on Wednesday in Al Khor, followed by 38C in Doha, Wakrah and Mesaieed. The minimum, on the other hand, will be 22C in Wakrah and Mesaieed, and 28C in Doha.

Tuesday, the maximum and minimum temperatures in Doha were 38C and 28C, respectively.

Safe driving in foggy conditions

As dense fog and poor visibility are reported from different parts of the country, the Ministry of Interior and the Met department (under the Qatar Civil Aviation Authority) have jointly issued an advisory on safe driving during foggy conditions. The tips are as follows:

* Don’t use emergency lights and high-beams; instead, use fog lights and low beams.

* Stick to the lane you are driving in, and avoid overtaking and changing lanes.

* Be alert and look out for any hazards that may lie ahead.

* Use defroster and wipers to maximise vision.

* Slow down the vehicle and drive at a speed that suits the conditions.

* Allow more distance between vehicles.
